A Threshold of Security
An entrance gate often adds an extra layer of security to a home. In fact, for many homes in Singapore, it is the main reason why their front doors can stay open while still maintaining security. People tend to choose aluminium, mild steel, or wrought iron because these materials not only give the gates a strong and sturdy look but they can also with the outdoor exposure for a long time. There is a whole lot of change in the choice of design. From very simple to decorate ones that tend to show the character of the house.Besides the look, other practical things are still there as the main points: the hinges should work smoothly, the lock mechanism must fit properly, and the finishing should be capable of resisting the weather conditions of the place. If the entrance gate is made of good quality, it will reflect the homes identity to a great extent. Besides quiet serving as a border between the private space of the home and the outside world, it is also a way of the owners saying who they are.
Iron Door Gates
Installing an iron gate to the main entrance to your home has various advantages. It provides extra security and protection against intruders and potential burglars. It also gives you the option and flexibility of keeping your main door open, while leaving the gate to provide security. This arrangement could allow greater ventilation and natural light into your home.
Designs
There are various different designs and patterns for your entrance gate. Wrought iron, together with aluminium and mild steel are popular options today with varying designs and budgets. Wrought iron gates provide more intricate designs and decorations than the other materials, with the iron bent to create different motifs and shapes to give added ornaments to your entrance.
Entrance-gate dimensions vary with the existing opening and property requirements. We measure the opening and confirm the handle and locking arrangement for the selected gate rather than relying on a single standard size.
Driveway Entrance Gates
Entrance gates are a necessity for most landed houses as they provide security as well as demarcating the boundaries of private property. A well-designed entrance gate gives a house great aesthetic appeal to the public, reflecting the style and theme of the house.
Installation
For terrace houses and semi-detached houses, swing or sliding entrance gates are commonly installed. The main advantage of a swing gate is the ease of maintenance and lower cost than a sliding gate. Besides aluminium and mild steel, wrought iron is a popular choice of material as it can be bent to allow ornament and patterns into the design.
Apart from installation of entrance gates, we can also help with the installation of a matching fence and garden gates if required to give a consistent aesthetic appeal.
Durability
For steel gates, an appropriate protective treatment and exterior finish can improve resistance to corrosion and weathering. The suitable process depends on the selected gate material and specification.
Measure Operation Before Choosing a Design
An entrance gate must fit the opening and the route around it. At an HDB flat, the swing cannot be considered only from inside the unit because an open gate also affects the common corridor and neighbouring openings. For landed properties, the available driveway depth, slope, drainage and vehicle movement influence whether a swing, sliding or folding arrangement is practical. We therefore measure the clear opening and operating area before discussing patterns or finishes.
Hinges, rollers, guides, handles and locks carry the everyday workload. Their position should allow the gate to open without scraping the floor, striking a wall or creating an awkward pinch point. A heavy decorative design also needs hardware suited to its weight. For a sliding gate, the track and run-back area must remain clear; for a swing gate, the leaf needs enough arc to operate without obstructing the intended path. Gate automation, where applicable, requires a separate review of the selected system, access and safety provisions.
Material choice changes the appearance and maintenance needs. Aluminium is lightweight and naturally corrosion resistant. Mild steel can provide a sturdy, clean-lined gate, while wrought iron supports more elaborate shapes. Steel gates depend on a suitable protective treatment and finish; not every material uses the same corrosion-protection process. Periodic cleaning and inspection of coating damage, hinges, bolts, tracks and locks helps identify wear before operation becomes difficult.
For HDB replacement gates, current rules are specific. HDB’s renovation guidelines for door and gate work state that the replacement gate’s width, number of panels and swing must remain the same as originally provided, and that the swing must not obstruct public escape. Corridor and staircase clearances can also apply. Condominium owners should check management requirements, while landed-property owners may need to consider boundary and authority requirements for wider driveway works. We can assess the gate opening and fabrication needs, but the applicable approval depends on the property and exact scope.

Measure the entrance and the full travel path
The usable entrance depends on more than the frame size. Posts, floor slope, latch position and the swing or sliding route all affect everyday access.
Swing or sliding configuration
Pedestrian, delivery or vehicle access
Level, slope and drainage
Hinges, rollers, latch and stops
Check the whole entrance zone
- 1
Opening width and post positions
- 2
Gate height and overhead clearance
- 3
Swing arc or sliding run-back
- 4
Floor slope, kerbs and drainage
The travel path must remain clear at the widest part of the gate.
Useful site information
- Front-on and side photographs
- Approximate opening dimensions
- Normal pedestrian or vehicle use
- Preferred swing or slide direction
- Existing posts, walls and floor conditions
Approximate measurements and photographs help with initial scoping. Final dimensions and site conditions should be verified before fabrication or installation.
